Size guides
Create measurement tables for clothing or shoes, assign them to a category or to specific products, and show them next to the size in your store.
Quick answer
A size guide is a measurement table your customer opens from the "Size guide" link, next to "Size", with CM and IN units. Go to Size guides in the catalog menu, click New guide, pick a template (Clothing, Shoes or Blank) and adjust the columns and rows. Then assign it to a category from Categories; if a product needs a different one, change it in that product's Size guide section. It is available on all plans.
On this page
A size guide is a measurement table (bust, waist, foot length…) that helps your customer pick the right size before buying. Fewer questions on WhatsApp and fewer exchanges after delivery.
Where customers see it#
On the product page, next to the Size label, a Size guide link appears. When opened, the customer sees the table and can switch between CM and IN: you enter the measurements in centimeters and the store converts them to inches.
If the product has several guides, the customer finds them in tabs inside the same window.
Note
The guide only shows if the product has a size attribute (for example Clothing size or Shoe size). If it doesn't, the store won't show the guide even if you assigned one. See Attributes and variants.
It is included on all plans. If you don't create any guide, your store looks exactly as it did before.
Create a guide#
- In the catalog menu, open Size guides (you can also find it in Settings).
- Click New guide and choose a template:
- Clothing: bust, waist, hip and length, with international sizes.
- Shoes: EU, US and UK equivalents with foot length.
- Blank: start from scratch and define your own columns.
- Enter a Name you will recognize later (e.g.: Shirts and blouses).
- Choose what the guide shows: Garment measurements (what the product measures) or Body measurements (what the person measures).
- Adjust the Columns and Rows (see below), check the Preview and click Save guide.
Columns#
Each column has a Column name and a Type:
| Type | Use it for |
|---|---|
| Measurement (cm) | Numbers in centimeters, with at most one decimal. The store converts them to inches. |
| Text | Equivalents or short notes, like EU 38 or Slim fit. |
Rows#
Each row is a size. You can pick it from your size attribute or type the size by hand. Add all sizes creates rows for every value of the attribute. Then fill in the measurements for each one.
In Note you can add something useful, for example: Measurements may vary by 1 or 2 cm.
Limits#
| Item | Limit |
|---|---|
| Guides per catalog | 20 |
| Columns per guide | 8 |
| Rows per guide | 40 |
| Own guides per product | 5 |
Tip
Create a few guides and reuse them: one for tops, one for pants, one for shoes. It is easier to maintain than one guide per product.
Assign a guide to a category#
This is the fastest way. Open Categories, edit the category and choose the guide in Size guide. Every product in that category will show it, except those with an exception. Choose None to remove it. See Categories.
Per-product exceptions#
Open the product and look for the Size guide section. You have three options:
- Inherit from category: uses the category's guide. This is the default.
- Own guides: choose up to 5 guides for this product with Add guide and reorder them with Move up and Move down.
- Don't show a guide: this product shows no guide, even if its category has one.
Changes in this section are saved immediately; you don't need to click the product's save button.
Product in several categories#
If a product is in several categories with different guides, the guide from the first category in the catalog's category order wins. Shelfkat warns you in the product's section and shows which guide is being used. If you prefer another one, pick it in Own guides.
The size attribute (optional)#
In the guide editor, Size attribute lets you choose which attribute the row sizes come from. It is set to Automatic by default and uses your products' size attribute; you don't need to touch it.
Choose one when you have several size attributes. For example, for shoes with an attribute called EU size, link the guide to that attribute so each row matches a value (36, 37, 38…).
- If you have no size attribute, you can type sizes by hand, but they won't be linked to your products.
- If you delete an attribute value, the guide row stays with its label.
Delete a guide#
Before deleting it, Shelfkat shows how many categories and products use it. Once deleted, those categories are left without a guide and the products go back to inheriting from their category.
FAQ#
Why don't I see the guide on a product? Check that the product has a size attribute, that its category has a guide (or the product has its own guides), and that it isn't set to Don't show a guide.
Can I set it from an Excel file? No: the Excel file has no size guide column. The category column does assign the product to a category, and the product inherits its guide.
