Getting started
Create your store
The Build your catalog wizard creates your workspace in 3 steps: business details, products and preview.
Quick answer
After you sign up, the Build your catalog wizard asks for your store's name, whether you sell products or services, your WhatsApp number and a sentence about what you sell. Click AI and Shelfkat writes the description and a draft of products with price and photo. Swap the photos for your own, check the preview, and click Create my workspace.
On this page
Your workspace is your space in Shelfkat: it's where your catalogs, products, contacts and plan live. You create the first catalog with the Build your catalog wizard, which appears the first time you sign in.
In this guide we create the sample store UrbaStyle, an urban clothing brand.
Click Got it to start. The wizard has three steps: 1. Business, 2. Items and 3. Preview.
Step 1: Business#
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Catalog name | Your store's name. It's used to build your web address, for example urbastyle.shelfkat.store. |
| Customize web address | Optional. Change the address if you don't like the one Shelfkat suggests. |
| Products or services? | Products if you sell physical goods (clothing, footwear, food). Services if you take bookings or quotes (barbershop, classes, repairs). |
| WhatsApp for orders | The country and number where you'll receive orders. You can leave it for later. |
| What do you sell? | A couple of specific sentences: what you sell, for whom, and at what price range. |
A good example for What do you sell?:
Ropa urbana y streetwear para hombre y mujer: camisetas básicas de algodón, pantalones cargo y tenis blancos. Precios desde 59.000 COP. Envíos a toda Colombia. (Urban streetwear for men and women: basic cotton T-shirts, cargo pants and white sneakers. Prices from 59,000 COP. Shipping across Colombia.)
Below there are three buttons to continue:
- AI: Shelfkat writes your store's description and a draft of products with title, description, price and photo. This is the recommended option. See Create products with AI.
- Sample: loads sample products so you can see how the store looks.
- Manual: moves on to step 2 with blank products for you to fill in.
Step 2: Items#
Here you review the products AI built (or write your own). Each product has a Title, Description, Price and a photo.
The photos AI generates are just a guide, but your real photos sell more. Tap each product's photo to replace it with your own. You can also fix any text: in the example we changed the title to Camiseta Básica Negra (Basic Black T-Shirt) because the real photo is black.
- Add another adds one more product.
- The trash icon removes a product.
- Skip for now moves on with no products (you can create them later).
Step 3: Preview#
This is how your store will look on a phone. Check the name, description, products and prices.
Click Create my workspace. In a few seconds you land on Home, your store's dashboard.
Note
Your store starts out as a Draft: no one sees it until you publish it. You have time to upload your logo, adjust the design and fill in the details.
What you see first in the dashboard#
- A guided tour of 8 steps that shows you the menu, Products, Design and your next step. Click Skip anytime.
- A short How did you find us? survey (you can click I'd rather not say).
Confirm your catalog's currency#
On Home, scroll down to Catalog currency, check that it's the right one for you (for example COP · Colombian peso), and click Save.
Warning
Until you click Save, prices may show in the default currency (USD). The currency is set once for the whole catalog, and past orders keep the currency they were placed in.
What's next#
Take a tour of the dashboard in Tour of the dashboard or go straight to Logo and banner to give your store its identity.
